The idea for this painting was shaped by a quiet dialogue between my inner thoughts and the beauty blooming around me. I found myself caught between nostalgia for my native place and a growing sense of pride and joy in what I am building and becoming here.
The swirling background reflects this restless movement, a subtle turbulence of thought, while magnolias surface as moments of pause. Their presence does not resolve the motion, but instead slows and reshapes it, gently shifting the rhythm of the space.
The painting has become a space where inner and outer experiences meet, each transformed through the exchange, allowing for a much needed pause and reflection, and serving as a gentle reminder to stop and breathe.
I’m beyond thrilled and grateful for the incredible support from my patrons, friends, and family at my first solo exhibit in February 2025. During my artist talk, I was asked about a painting I intentionally chose not to explain, as I wanted everyone to experience it for themselves. The reflections I heard were beautiful, and I’d love to share them with you—maybe something will resonate with your own thoughts.
This alcohol ink piece, created in 2024, began as an abstract river. I stopped working on it when I saw shapes emerge, sparking debate among family and friends—some saw eyes, others peacocks. Initially, I almost didn't include it in the exhibit, feeling it wasn't finished, but over 15 viewers told me it was perfect as is. This painting embodies the message I aim to share: art should invite personal interpretation. Some saw peacocks, dolphins, whales, deer, eyes, mountains, and even angels rising!
It's amazing how one artwork can bring forth so many different emotions and perspectives. I appreciate everyone's interest, views, opinions and the encouragement.
